What is Mailsort?

With postage often being the most expensive part of any Direct Marketing campaign, you need to consider all the options before choosing the one that suits you best. There are so many discount options to consider, for instance qualifying for advertising mail or responsible mail, is the pack machinable? Then barcoded discounts, including the Mailmark product from Royal Mail, may need considering.

Mailsort is a way of obtaining Royal Mail postage discounts by pre-sorting your outbound mail into regional and local sorting office batches prior to posting. By doing this part of the Royal Mail’s job for them, you benefit from cost savings as less time and resource is needed by Royal Mail to process your mail.

Discounts can be quite substantial, especially when heavier items are involved. The first level is that the postage cost is a straight line price based on exact weight, rather than a weight range (ie – if an item weighs 90g then you only pay for 90g, not 100g). After that, an additional percentage discount is available depending on the level of Mailsort and quantity of mail.
